Booking a Cab from Mumbai Airport: What Actually Matters

Flight delays, terminal confusion and parking charges catch out most first-time airport cab bookers. Here is how to pre-book a Mumbai Airport pickup that still works when your flight lands late.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) is one of the busiest airports in India, and arranging ground transport after a long flight is where a lot of trips come unstuck. A little preparation removes almost all of the friction.

Tell your driver the right terminal

Mumbai has two terminals that are some distance apart. T2 handles international flights and a share of domestic ones; T1 handles the remaining domestic traffic. They are not walkable from one another, and a driver waiting at the wrong terminal is the single most common cause of delay. Share your flight number when you book — the terminal follows from it, and it lets the driver track the flight rather than guess.

Plan for the flight being late

This is the real argument for pre-booking rather than finding a cab on arrival. If your driver knows your flight number, a delay is simply absorbed — the pickup shifts with the flight and nobody needs to be called from the baggage belt.

Do ask how waiting time is handled before you book, particularly for international arrivals where immigration and baggage can add a long and unpredictable tail to the journey. Any operator worth using will give you a straight answer.

Know what is on top of the fare

• Airport parking and entry charges are normally billed at actuals rather than built into the quote
• Tolls on the route out of Mumbai are usually additional on intercity trips
• Night travel, waiting beyond an agreed window, and extra stops may be charged separately

None of these should be a surprise on the day. Ask for the full picture when you request the fare, and get it in writing on WhatsApp so there is a record you can both refer to.

Agree the meeting point

Arrivals at BOM is busy and the pickup areas are strictly managed. Confirm in advance whether your driver will meet you inside at arrivals with a name board or wait in a designated pickup zone, and make sure you have a working phone number for them before you land.
